New potatos(also known as first earlies) are of varieties bred to mature early in the season (now) Old potatos(aka maincrop) are slower growing varieties,producing more bulk,and capable of being kept through the winter and spring. So a new potato will never become an old potato.

it doesn't. new potatoes are just the variety of small potatoes. my guess is they just call them new b/c they are small.
If you mean do they get old and have to be disposed of, yes.
If you mean will they get to be big old (large) potatoes, I would say yes if they are left in the ground to keep growing.
New potatoes mean they are harvested while very small.

Never. New potatoes are a type of potato. They can go bad, but then they would still be "new potatoes", just new potatoes that went bad. They are called "new" because they are young... pulled early in the growing process when the skins are still very thin. They are either white skinned or red. They are wonderful mashed with the skins on. These potatoes you never peel the skins.

new potato is a fresh potato. it can be small or big, size has nothing to do with it. a potato is new, when the skin is very thin. you don't have to peel, just rub it with your fingers, and the skin falls off. actually, regular supermarkets very rarely or never have them this fresh. if you want new potatos, try farmers market, or a high end supermarket (foe example wegman's in pa and nj)
when you see potato changing color to green, or greenish, peel it very thickly. the discoloration is caused by toxins. you don't want to eat any of the green stuff. this happens only to old potatoes.
