Is it safe to eat LIVE cicadas?!

Question:

Is it safe to eat LIVE cicadas?

I wanna gross some people out this summer by eating some live cicadas. they are all around me and i just wanna know is it safe to eat these things alive, not cooked? Has anyone eaten a live cicada before?

Answers:
Yes, I've heard that they actually taste sort of like almonds. But, like all foods if you havent eaten it before and then you consume too much you may get sick.

make sure the tree wasn't sprayed with pesticide

I'd think they'd be pretty crunchy. I would not suggest that you eat them, but it is up to you.

I used to freak my little sister out when I'd gather the cicada skins that were stuck to trees and flick them in her hair. We're grown now and she STILL gets freaked out whenever she sees those things.

Now that's good eating boy, What do you mean gross, Enjoy it with a case of 211 Steel reserve.

I suppose it's safe, but yuck!!! I would never do it.

they're fine...have you ever accidentally eaten a fly?? i have....you'll be fine....your stomach acids will kill it right when you swallow it. peeple in other countries eat bugs on a regular bases; cockroaches, cicada, worms, etc.

Did not eat one. But you could do it. What I read is it is eaten by many wild animals and even dogs. So it cannot be harmful.
If you do eat one can you update us on the event please.

I like my food cooked and not still wiggling. There is so much about food poisoning. It seems a better idea to cook it.

i had a friend grab a cicada once when he was drunk, put tomato sauce on it and ate it. he is still alive.

You people will do anything for attention.
