In your opinion, Is raisin bran healthy?!

Question:

In your opinion, Is raisin bran healthy?

- facts would be useful for support thanx
- and I eat alot of cereal and so I want it to be healthy (sometimes the box in one day)
- do you know an alternative cereal that's healthier?

Answers:
Yes, I'd say it's healthy, as I poop about an hour after eating it. You really only need to be eating one serving a day though. If you want to be healthy you should one serving of that, and then all your veggies and fruits, and less of the junk stuff.
And if you're doing a box in one day... that's most likely way over 2000 calories just from that. Not to mention all the carbs you consuming there.

sure. lots of fiber, low in fat and calories, i'm sure raisins (grapes) have benefits...vitamins, antioxidants. i probably wouldn't ONLY eat raisin bran, though. you need a variety to be healthy. protein from lean meats, other fruits and green veggies.

yes

It most definitely is. I am not a dietician. If you're really concerned about what is best for you, look at the ingredients and calories. Different kinds of cereals are good for different people based on their body chemistry. You may also consult a dietician.

yep the brans are low in sugar and it is providing a fruit for you

hmmm....

cereal now comes in a wide variety that you can tailor to your needs.

Raisin Bran is perfect if:

1) you have stable blood sugar and are not diabetic

2) you need to feel full for longer hours, the fibre helps do that longer than couple crackers for instance.

3) you need roughage, makes for an easier time on the loo :D

Other cereals are tailored for other needs:

Special K and Kashi go lean for weight loss

Smart start healthy to support cardiovascular health

Oatmeal to help lower cholesterol.

Overall what i'd suggest is that you mix it up

Make hot oatmeal, eat a fruit, make a fruit smoothie because cereal alone cannot meet your nutritional needs.

And downing one box a day is a bit much, don't forget your fruits, veggies, whole grain and lean protein.

Hope it helped :)

I hate it, but I tell you it is definetly a good laxative. It will clean your system so quick, you won't know what hit you.
