Preparing Pacific Razor Clams?!

Question:

Preparing Pacific Razor Clams?

We dug up 2 clams on Saturday & a friend of ours said to put them in salt water and the sand would come off of them, but instead they drowned. I'm getting mixed reviews on if it is okay to eat them since they died like that, but no real reasons. I've been surfing the internet for the past 45 minutes trying to see, but I can't figure it out. Does anyone know if they are still okay to eat or if I should toss them? Please tell me why too. Thanks. :)

Answers:
No toss them. They must be alive when cooked, if the shell has opened they are dead and should not be eaten.

lol well they died because you prolly used TAP water mixed with Salt... which has poisions in there that will kill them pretty darn quick.
