Originally they were actually baked in mugs hence the name cupcake, but over the years they have become popular children goodies and have grown into some of the most spectalular designs on any cake!!

I've heard old men refer to a cute young woman as a 'cupcake.' But my experience is batter baked in a pan with individual round sections. Each finished product is a cupcake, which is usually decorated or has icing applied.

But, a cupcake sandwich is when you gently pull the cupcake in half, top and bottom, flip the bottom onto the top, so the frosting is in the middle. This is THE way to enjoy a cupcake. Mmmmmmmmmmilk.
