Eating healthy?!

Question:

Eating healthy?

I'm trying to eat healthier than I do now. But, I don't to just eat vegies and fruit all day. What other healthy, or low calorie foods can I eat. Are there any that taste good??

Answers:
It is great that you are trying to eat healthier, and fruits and veggies are extremely important! But you also need to add some dairy...skim milk, yogurt, low fat cheese...adds in some calcium, without a ton of calories.
You also need some whole grains and fiber in there...Breads being the most obvious, but if you are carb-conscious, try multi-grain wraps instead. Also, try throwing some black beans, kidney beans, soybeans, etc, into salads and such.
Protein is important too...boiled eggs, chicken, lean meats should also be added in.
Fish and nuts are great sources of Omega-3 vitamins, so try eating some fish, and tossing nuts and seeds into salads and veggies.
The key to a good diet is balance...for one, your body needs it, and two, the same foods get boring all the time, making you more likely to "cheat".
I hope this helps...You may also want to think about adding flax-seed or wheat germ to some fruit smoothies...very good for you!
Good luck!

Imitation Crab Meat with a lil' cocktail sauce is affordable and low cal, so are pickles, and Hummus is good on veggies to offset the boredom...

popcorn
100 calorie snacks (jello, pudding, cookies, crackers, etc)
yogurt
fruit leather

you can normal food and eat heathy, the key is to keep the size of your meal small. as long as you don't indulged in the things that you know are bad, you can have them every once in a while, you are still eating heathy. cook with olive oil and "fresh" ingredients is a good start, the pre packed items are loaded with additives and preservatives. good eating

Here is an easy guideline for healthy eating.
Three fish meals a week
Two no-meat meals a week
Two red meat meals a week

9-13 servings of fruit and veggies a day (1 serving is 1/2 c.)
Make fruit smoothies with fresh or frozen fruit, nonfat yogurt, a little honey, whey protein powder and ice cubes

High fiber breads, pastas, etc. - try popcorn for a snack

Add a small handful of nuts to oatmeal or a salad once a day

At least three servings of dairy products daily - more if a female under 40 so you can build bone.

Drink lots of water - watch the soda pop, beer, etc....empty calories,

I hope these guidelines give you a little help. A healthy diet is not boring or tasteless. Check out South Beach and Weight Watcher sites for free recipe ideas.
