Milk Rice (Gossi) Recipe #134877
http://www.recipezaar.com/134877...
This is posted for the World Tour 2005 RecipeZaar event. I haven't tried this particular recipe from Senegal yet, but I've often eaten something very similar for breakfast, although here it is a dessert. It's from The Africa Cookbook - Tastes of a Continent by Jessica B. Harris.
by PanNan
6-8 servings
35 min 10 min prep
2 cups short-grain rice (like Arborio)
6 cups water
4 1/4 cups milk
1 pinch salt
1/2 vanilla bean
6 tablespoons sugar (to taste)
Bring water to a boil in a large saucepan. Wash the rice and drain it. Add the rice to the boiling water, and cook for 5 minutes.
In a separate saucepan, bring the milk to a boil over medium heat.
Remove the cooked rice and drain it. Slowly drop the rice into the boiling milk. Lower the heat and add salt, vanilla bean, and sugar. Cover and simmer 15 - 20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the milk is absorbed. Add more milk, if necessary for a tender rice.
Serve warm, cold or room temperature - your preference.
Easy Breezy Rice Milk Recipe #26676
http://www.recipezaar.com/26676...
From the cookbook called "How It All Vegan".
by mielhollinger
2 cups
10 min
2 cups cooked rice
2 cups hot water
maple syrup (to taste)
vanilla extract (to taste)
In a blender or food processor, blend all the ingredients until smooth.
This will be quite thick and gets thicker as it sets.
Thin the mixture with more water if necessary.
Strain any lumps and chill.
In addition to drinking it as is, it may be used in gravies, sauces, and soups in place of milk.

1/2 cup brown rice
8 cups water
1/2 teaspoon sea salt
1/8 teaspoon granulated kelp (optional)
1 cup or more cold water
3 tablespoons maple syrup or honey
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Place rice, 8 cups water, salt, and kelp in pan. Cover and bring to a boil over high heat, reduce heat to low and simmer 3 hours, or until rice is very soft. (You can also do this in a crockpot overnight.)
In blender, puree rice mixture with remaining ingredients. You will have to do it in two batches. Puree each batch at least 2 or 3 minutes to completely liquefy the rice. Add more water if a thinner consistency is desired. Keep refrigerated.
Yield: About 6 cups
i agree with her up there..but i like white rice better and 1 cub vs 1/2 cup
