How does bottled water compare to tap water?
It seems like more and more people are drinking bottled water nowadays. Is it as safe as tap water and how is it regulated? There seems to be many brands with "natural spring water", are there really that many natural springs around? Won't they eventually get used up?
Answers:
Most bottled waters try to give the impression of coming from a natural spring, but in reality there are few natural springs that have a high enough output to stock the shelves of stores around the country (or around the world).
As a rule, most bottled waters are in fact tap water which has been through multiple filtrations, and they often have natural minerals added after filtration to provide a "spring-water" taste.
The easiest way to tell is to look at the "Nutrition Facts" section on the bottle. If the water is anything BUT natural spring water, the bottler is required to note it as such.
Bottled water isn't very regulated at all. Who knows what is in that water. For that matter, tap water is very different in different places. I don't think you can really compare the 2 because they can both be so different.
It is so funny. People are spending so much money for water that may just be tap water. Read up on the subject. Many news articles state that there is no difference. I put water in my refrigerator for 24 hours. It is stated that if water sits for that amount of time, the impurities will dissolve. Heck, we are all gonna die anyway. Bottled water purchases are as stupid as cigarette purchases to me.
turns out spring water has no floride for or teeth which is why the incidents of cavaties is going up among young children. also it was recently revealed thar spring water is likely to have more traces of arsenic and mercury
People buy bottled water instead of tap water because they think it is safer to drink, when in reality, it goes through the exact same purification process as Dasani, Aquafina, and other bottled water companies.
Many of the common brands are nothing more than filtered tap water. Some get it for convenience (I pretty much only get bottled water away from home, at home I have a filter on my faucet). Others feel that bottled water "tastes" better than tap. However, one episode of "Penn and Teller's Bullshit" delt with bottled water, and one thing they did was ask people on the streets of New York why they drank bottled water, and most said taste. However, in a taste test, many of them picked the tap water as the better tasting one. So, a lot of it is simply perception.
I drink bottled water, Spring Water. You can investigate online easy enough and find out what is authentic and what brands are not. I also have filters on my sinks and shower at home. I do not want to ingest fluoride, a known carcinogen, or chlorine used to kill bacteria in tap water. Chlorine is one of the most toxic substances known on the planet.
I don't even let my pets drink tap water.
Springs under the earth are fed by many sources and are highly unlikely to dry up.
