Anyone see last night's 'Whistleblower' programme about Tesco and Sainsburys?
Will you be avoiding these supermarkets now, following this expose?
I definitely won't be shopping there anytime soon!
Answers:
I certainly wont be buying meat or fish there again. However, I do like Sainsburys so will still shop for other things.
Disgusting programme though. No wonder they are the top 2 highest supermarket earners.
I used to love eating things form the deli bars and the suppossedly fresh meat counter. I will be avoiding them like the plague from now on and will spend a bit more in my local deli which I know is decent.
I dont eat a great deal of meat anyway. I eat quorn - much safer. I am not a vegetarian but with the lax way we handle meat these days it just makes more sense.. i definitely wouldnt buy anything from the supermarket butchers... Will be going to the proper butchers from now on..
All meats out...cooked meals never on my shopping list anyway.
I will be sourcing my meat locally as I hope will everyone else, though I do know that this is not always a feasible option for somefolk. And be rest assured that these supermarkets chains know this all too well and will still continue to provide substandard food hygiene provision.
I honestly hope that the food standards agency take these giants to court over this and that staff responible ought to be sacked...no excuses about being too busy.
Feeble excuse.
Wasn't it disgusting!
The problem is I reckon all the supermarkets will be pretty much the same......So where should we shop?
I told you they we're all at it.

Responsibility will doubtless be delegated to the branches and a few staff sacked for effect while those at head office whose policies implicitly create these practices will still be collecting their six figure bonuses and share options.
I shall attempt to reduce even further my limited dependence on supermarkets.
I hate to be a critic, but did anyone else think that a 6year old could have made a better documentary? I agree that the issues had to be explored, but to me it was a load of circumstancial twaddle! They didn't back it up with any scientific evidence, all they kept saying was "This is bad because bacteria could spread", or "This could damage your health because bacteria could be created here," and then they went to a chicken farm (which was absolutely discusting) and said "This chicken farm does not supply Tesco or Sainsbury." So what was the point in that. The farms that do supply Tesco and Sainsbury could have the highest standards of cleanliness!
They should have taken swabs, or samples of meat to be tested, but it was obviously done on the cheap. They talked about shortcuts, but did no further research after the undercover investigation.
Sorry again for critisising, you may not agree. I do think that Britain has the cleanest food sources in the world already, and our health and safety cannot be faulted. I feel for anyone who got food poisoning for buying bad meat...all I am saying is the way the documentory was presented was a bit naff.
I didn't see the programme but wouldn't have put me off using all branches of the supermarkets. If fresh food is sold out of date you can usually tell by look or smell. What is more worrying is a supermarket leaving frozen food in cardboard boxes sitting on the floor by the freezer but no staff member there unloading it. It could be there for hours and be partly or wholly defrosted before being put back in a freezer and who would know? I have seen this happen on more than one occasion in my local Somerfield! needless to say i do not buy frozen food from that store.
