What is vegemite?!
What is vegemite?
How does it taste? Is it available in the United States?
Answers:
Vegemite (and Marmite, another similar product) is made from the leftover yeast from brewing beer. It resembles brewers yeast in flavor, but saltier. Australians spread it on toast and crackers. Marmite has a smoother flavor than Vegemite and is my favorite of the two. I like to spread it on cold pizza. It blends well with the tomato sauce. Vegemite is high in vitamin B, which is good in lowering stress levels. If you dont have brewers yeast, suck on a vitamin B tablet, that will give you an idea of how it tastes.
I've heard it tastes really awful and incredibly salty. Never tried it my self.
Here's a website where you can buy it though,

It's a food staple from Australia. It is somethng like peanut butter, but made from vegetables instead of peanuts. You can try a high-end grocery store such as Fresh Market or World Market I think they have it.
It's a spread made of yeast. I'm in the USA and have a netfriend from Australia. She sent me a jar. It's made by KRAFT foods.
A bunch of people at my job had a taste testing party one day. Most people gagged. I personally think it's horrible.
According to my friend, you are supposed to use just a very small amount on your crackers or whatever.
Even though I don't like it I find it very interesting.
It's a spread made from leftover brewers yeast. Very salty, but not as bad as i thought it would be.
Vegemite is made from the yeast extract leftover from beer brewing, plus some vegetables and spices. Its one of those food that people either love or hate. Its very salty and bitter, and there is a slight beer taste. I can't even smell it without gaging, but my brother loves the stuff. You can find in the US, but you'll probably have to go to a specialty store. The World Foods store is only place near me that carries it.
its junk (not junk food just crap!)
I think its just down under thats what men at work say anyway
It is a yeast extract with a savory taste. It needs ot be spread in relatively small amounts on bread or crackers. Australians and Brits like it (its called 'Marmite' in England.)
