Are you supposed to refrigerate tomatoes?!
Are you supposed to refrigerate tomatoes?
Are you suppsed to refrigerate tomatoes or is better to leave them out on the counter top?
Answers:
Leave them on the counter top if they are not totally ripe. Putting them in the fridge will hinder the ripening process.
Refrigeration completely destroys most of the flavor in fresh tomatoes.
NO! They will get more ripe and sweeter as they sit on the counter. They will keep longer in the fridge but will also lose some flavor.
They ripen better OUT of the refrigerator. They will really not ripen nicely in.
putting tomatoes in the frig will make them phetty-(sorta mushy and not as firm-didn't know how to spell-just know how to say it)
...well, you can.
Fresh tomatoes are kept on the table
I'm not sure. i always put mine in the fridge but when you buy them thry're just on a shelf and not in the fridge. So maybe you're not supposed to.
Not really, You can to make them last longer. But on the norm they should not. The refrigeration does make them last longer.
Only fidge them after sliced not before.
leave them on a window sill
either way is fine
I personally like some ice cold tomato slices on a hot day
but leaving them out will be OK..for a while
you could always put them up in mason jars
my grandma used to make a huge pot of vegetable soup using tomatoes and okra and she would put that into mason jars and place them in a great big pressure cooker and throw in a few more sticks of firewood and let her rip till she cooled down.then she would keep them jars in a pantry. I remember eating buttermilk cornbread and vegetable soup in the summer..with a big old glass of iced tea..
You don't have to but I do.
