I found an o-ring in my Target Brand Milk Jug.?!
I found an o-ring in my Target Brand Milk Jug.?
I drank the whole jug, all one gallon's worth, over a few days. In my last pour I didn't notice the o-ring fall in the cup, but I heard something strange. I looked all over the milk and in the jug. Nothing. Then I drank the glass, and in my last gulp I almost swallowed a black rubber o-ring 2cm in diameter. I didn't choke, but was terribly grossed out. I called Target and they have come to pick up the gallon jug and the o-ring. They are mailing me two vouchers for $3.67 (the price of the milk). I think this was terrible. Not only that their quality control didn't find this, but that I could have swallowed it and gotten it in my system. Should Target do something else about this? Should I pursue any other action?

BTW guys, they picked up the jug and ring earlier today. BUT: I took dated pictures of everything, even with a scale next to the o-ring, and the people who picked it up noted what they picked up in an official form and had me sign and they signed. I/ve got proof!! Got any idea on what kind of lawyer to call?

No damage, no choking, no grease on the o-ring. Just yucky to feel rubber in ur mouth when ur expecting supple milk instead. I'm content w/ my two free gallons of milk. LOL

Just read other answers and I have to comment on the lack of sense that I am reading. just because it's a big company that dosen't mean they owe a huge settlement. She wasn't hurt by this, what is target compensating for? They can prove if the o-ring came from the plant, sure, but that only proves the milk manufacturer made a mistake, they are aware, they should fix the problem but they aren't liable for anything either. That is why I said report it for future record.
Sorry to hear about your experience but I think you did the right thing by letting them know and they did the right thing by giving you the vouchers. You didn't get hurt which is a good thing. Nothing bad happened except that you are a little grossed out now but that will pass. you have to realize companies are run by humans and humans make mistakes. sometimes those mistakes are dangerous and costly but many times they are ones such as yours. Just because Target is a billion dollar company dosen't mean they are perfect and you are entitled to more than what they have given you. so my answer is no I don't beleive Target is liable for this and pursuing any other action would be costly and worthless of your part. My husband is an attorney, trust me I am right. I would follow up with a formal letter just in case this happens again to you or someone else and someone gets hurt, then they would have records of previous problems.
It probably came off the milking machine. Still, I'd take it back to the store.
sue the bastards...
You should ask for gift certificates! They will compensate you in order for you to shut up!
o rings are lucky
you should be glad!
and hey, your getting 2 free gallons of milk
mmm...yummy o rings
(btw, this is coming from somone who drinks 1 to 2 GALLONS per day and has yet to find a single o ring)
Maybe not Target, but the milk producer should do something. That could have been dangerous!
you should of kept the o-ring!!
now it is your word against theirs
not so good!!!
they knew they could of been worse, that is why they took the jug and o-ring!!!
so you don't have the evidence
p.s Don't you love how some people never actually read the questions?
You should sue.
Uh, probably too late. What you should have done was call a lawyer. Of course the company at fault will try to resolve it as quickly as possible for as little money. If you've already given the milk jug back to them, youre s.o.l. but any lawyer will give you a free consultation. You could have choked to death. You could have gotten millions. Sorry. Probably too late
Cry like a Lib?
Don't give back the o-ring or the jug call a lawyer. Again don't GIVE TARGET BACK ANYTHING. ANSWER THE DOOR WHEN THEY COME TO GIVE YOU A CHECK TO SETTLE OUT OF COURT.
You should ask for whatever you want now...they will offer the minimum but give you what you want....dont wait till the give the 3 bucks to ask for more cause then they will say it has already been settled....i love Target but i will never buy the milk
You can't sue them for this for one reason: you can't prove that the o-ring was actually in the gallon of milk, and you would need to be able to prove it.
Thats a lawsuit right there honey.
First off, the milk is only branded by target. It is most likely bought pre-bottled from a company that sells it to differeent stores under the stores label. That being said, target really doesn't have any quality control over it, besides leaking jugs and experation dates.
I would have recorded the numbers from the jug indicating where it was bottled. You could then find out where it was bottled an take it up with them if needed.
Cool.
How can you prove to a judge that the o-ring was in the jug of milk?
Also, you weren't injured at all...if you sued your lawsuit will probably get thrown out
did you die do you feel ill hey go drink some more milk its good for you dont worry be happy it wasnt a rat turd
If it was a clean O-ring, no grease or other matter on it, I don't really see what the big deal is, it's a hunk of rubber.
If you get sick I can understand bringing lawyers into it, but short of that contacting the company so they can make sure it doesn't happen again was the best course of action. And you got vouchers too.
Maybe you should only buy food from grocery stores. I dont buy my Wild Turkey at the furniture store.
There are worse things that happen to people in the world, so yeah it will be okay.
Ouch, sounds gross! Glad you're okay, though.
I never knew until a few years back that there's all types of crap in milk, actually! Looks like we're getting much more than we think, and an o-ring is the least of our worries.

I don't drink milk anymore. Maybe this is a sign for you, too!
Good luck!
when i was a kid I almost swallowed a dead fly with a rubber band around it that was in the milk. I felt it in my mouth and was debating wether it it would be better to swallow it and not know what it was, or look and be grossed out. So I looked. Better to be grossed out than physically ill. The FDA allows so many insect parts per million in food. Lovely. They offered us a container of free milk . Right. It was a long time before I ever drank milk again, and then I had to strain it over ice first to make sure no dead flies in there...now I drink soy milk...have not seen anything untoward yet with that.
I agree with TE. The only reason they are going to pick it up from you is to dispose of the evidence. I know a story of a guy who found a rat in his can of coke. He was sincere and told coke about it and just wanted them, as like you, to know about the problem and make sure it doesn't happen again like a good friendly citizen. They came, took it, and when he called back to see what had happened or what the result of their findings were, they said, who? What? Never heard of you and don't know what you are talking about, good bye.
At least they should be honest and say to you, hey, thank you for telling us and not trying to sue us as a lot of people try to do these days. Just seems a sneaky thing to do, to just give you a couple of vouchers and never mention the fact that they are so very happy that you are not suing them. It's really shameful of them if you ask me not to be open about it.
It was probably a castration ring, so its likely been around a lambs testicles.
Did that make you feel any better ?
perhaps not
It was a mistake, they apologised. Why the need to seek more ?
