Jeff, kudos on the well thought out question.
I suggest flossing. The most offensive part of the onion breath are the little particles of onion stuck between your teeth. Once you floss, a little mouthwash and brushing your tongue should have you back on your feet in no time.

eat fish and with lots of lime

toothbrush, toothpase

if that fails.....

soda

may be some orbit (okalyptus) gum helps you!

YOU CAN USE MINTS OR GUM. IF AT HOME BRUSH YOUR TEETH

toothpaste

Yup, parsley...the curly one, not Italian parsley will do the trick. Also works for garlic breath. It's the chloryphill (sp?), gotta love the phill! On another note, onions are great for burns, just cut one in half and rub it on yer burn immediatly and the pain will go away immediatly!

Brush ur teeth
