chip is a junk food and a cracker is not

A chip is usually thinner than a cracker and uses a different preparation method. Chips are usually fried, although they can be baked sometimes. They are usually made from potatoes (potato chips) or tortillas (tortilla chips). Crackers are always baked and often times, they have small holes in them.

When we say chip, we usually refer to potato chips, tortilla chips, etc. all of which have been fried in oil.

While,

A cracker is a dry, thin, crispy, and usually savory biscuit that developed from military hardtack and nautical ship biscuits. Crackers are baked.

A chip is thin and oval.
A cracker is thicker than a chip and could be round, oval or square shaped.
