No, in 1919 a man named Roy Allen in Lodi California made ice cream and createds the first frosted root beer drink who he had purchased the recipe from an Arizona pharmycist (spell?) he then in 1922 he moved his location and started up the official car side tray service, he then decided to take on a partner Frank Wright who had been one of his original employees in Lodi.....so for the name of their combined business they used their initials thus A&W
