The traditional Egg Roll in Chinese restarants was covered in an egg batter and deep fried.

What is called an egg roll nowadays is actually a Spring Roll... and there are no springs in this roll either.

I think the same damn thing!!! in its native language, its not called this, but for some reason, english called it this, and I even asked my boss once (I worked at a chinese restraunt), and she said because it turns yellow once deep fried

It came from the traditional Chinese recipe eggrolls which were thin 'sheets' of egg wrapped over meat / etc. They just look like them.

You don't get dogs in dogs' food do you ? =P

THe egg roll wraps have egg in them

shrug

I believe yuiko is correct. The egg rolls we eat now are not the original recipe. Like the french use egg crepes and Italians have a manicotti made of egg wrapped around cheesy goodness.
