Will you have it hot or cold?!
Will you have it hot or cold?
My brother Denny always told me when we were kids that if you put hot water in the ice trays they turn into ice quicker than if you put in cold. Even as a kid, I had a hard time finding the logic in that but never argued 'cause he is older than me and scary. So tell me; does hot water turn into ice faster than cold?
Answers:
I also heard this from a smart kid. So we experimented. And the experiment failed. The cold water froze first.

Yes it does. Experiment with your own ice cube trays. I don't know the why, maybe someone will help out with that.
It's probably just hearsay. I've heard that before too, but people just repeat what they hear. Monkey see monkey do.
I have heard it does, but I usually just use cold water.

Evaporation causes cooling. Since hot water evaporates faster, it cools faster.///////////////////////... Of course I'm assuming the cold water is right out of the faucet. Not near freezing! Hot water freezes clearer, NOT because it has a longer time to set! It's because it has less oxygen in it when it's hot. And oxygen is what makes ice less clear. So don't listen to the drubber who said it's because it has longer to set.
I don't know if it freezes quicker but I do know if you add hot water the cubes freeze more evenly than if you add cold water. Tested it!
i don't think so......it's the same......WATER!
Don't believe it does. Why should it.? Does it make sense? Do you think hot water will cool down to 32 deg faster than cooler water. I don't and I wouldn't believe anyone who told me differetntly.
Yes it's known as Mark's Law accidentally discovered by a kid
sorry to say but your bro is right, listen if you put hot water in the fridge the cold from the refrigerator will freeze it faster. Im only in 9`th grade but my science teacher was tacking about that like a week ago. and hey, can`t mess wit a teach.
When hot water freezes before cold water its called the Mpemba effect. It doesnt happen all the time but it does happen. Of course water has to reach 32o F to freeze so if you put 30o water in the freezer at the same time you put 99o water in, the colder water will freeze first.
No, that makes no sense, It does make the ice clearer because it has longer time to set.
i usually just use cold water......but i guess i'll have to try it with warm
I don't remember ever telling you that. And "scary"?!
