Electric vs charcoal smoker?!
Electric vs charcoal smoker?
I have seen comparable prices for both type of smokers. In your opinion is one better than the other? Does the charcoal smoker give a better flavor than the electric? Pros, Cons?
Answers:
Charcoal has much better flavor.
You can use different flavored wood chips like Hickory to add even extra flavor. Why have an electric one, may as well just fry the meat in a pan on the stove, it will taste the same.
And it is not that expensive to buy charcoal and lighter fluid.
Believe me, do not waste your money an an electric one, you will wish you had gone charcoal.
If the price is about the same, in the long run electric is cheaper and easier. AND as a bonus, less clean up.
both bad and wasting money
I have one of the New Brunfels 55 gal drum smokers with a side fire box and burn only hickory wood. I can slow smoke ribs, brisket, etc....I absolutely love my wood smoker. I can cook a whole weeks worth of meats (in the hot summer who wants to cook indoors). I am lucky tho, we can harvest the hickory from our woods. Electric smokers, yuck, what an impure thing to do. As for charcoal, you are not getting the wood smoke to add the flavor. Charcoal only slow cooks. And I HIGHLY recommend that you DO NOT use any charcoal that has any kind of accelerant. Use only natural wood charcoal. But I still recommend the wood smoker. Check on line for the New Braunfels brand. You used to be able to buy them at Home Depot, but now I do not know where they can be purchased.
Obviously babyjwj has never had smoked ribs or brisket, or even better, smoked salmon. A waste? How so???
Aa far as an electric smoker? What a waste of electricity. May as well just cook with you oven indoors.
Charcoal smoker is better than the electric, in my opinion. The flavor is what it's all about and electricity can't duplicate that.
