If you're having guests, you can have a pot luck type thing...therefore, you'll only have to concentrate on one or two items.
You could make it a pot-luck BBQ. Have people bring their own food they'd like grilled. Somebody will probably bring drinks and chips and stuff as well.
Without money, you don't really have any other options short of stealing food which I can't recommend.
Hopefully you have enough money for coals for the grill and some hamburgers and hot dogs. Lots of grocery stores will have specials this weekend so scope out the deals. Once you have what you can afford, start inviting people over personally. 99 out of 100 will ask if they can bring something. Tell each person a little something like a six-pack or a bag of chips. Or if you know someone makes like great beans or potatoe salad invite them and say "would you be able to bring some of your great potatoe salad?" They'll be really flattered. Most of all, have fun. The idea is to get everybody together.
Have everyone bring their own meat to cook on your grill. That way everyone can eat what they want, you don't have to spend a fortune on food, and you still get to have a fun party! But, at least try to scrape together a few bucks, and provide a couple of side dishes, and some chips.
maybe each one of your guests can bring a dish to pass. that's what my family does when we have bbq's. sometimes if needed they'll also bring items needed such as charcaol, paper plates, plastic forks and so on... this way, it not only makes the barbeque so much better for everyone it does'nt cost you a fortune trying to pay for everything for everyone to eat.
if your having the bbq with close friends just tell them you cant have it because you are broke, they should understand. then wait until you have some more money. its no biggie. but if its with people you dont know all too well, well then i dont know
good luck!!
I seriously think you should skip having it at your house, maybe see if someone else is having one. Typically when we have a cookout, everybody brings something, but we provide the meat. If someone else is having it, then you can get off pretty cheap with a pasta salad.
