Does chocolate/sugar make you break out?!

Question:

Does chocolate/sugar make you break out?

I hear that chocolate and sugar makes you break out more. Is this true, or just another acne myth?

Answers:
Some people have an allergic sensitivity to chocolate, and find that if they stop eating it their skin clears up. In general, you're more likely to have break-outs from the iodine in your food (especially salty foods, since table salt is enriched with iodine), milk (which has lots of iodine in it from medicated cows and the milking process), or your multivitamin. If you're having a hard time controlling acne, try cutting out iodized salt for a couple weeks and see how you do. You don't have to cut out all salt -- use sea salt instead. Lay off the milk, too, and see if that helps.

Good luck!

it's just a bunch of bull. NOTHING makes you break out. it's your skin. not what you eat.

It is not true. What causes break outs is the clogging of the pores, and this is done with oils and dirt. The only way chocolate will make you break out is if you rub it onto your skin and don't wash it off.

Your diet does have an effect on your skin, and eating fatty foods are more likely to have an effect on your skin, but not just your face. Why else would certain fruits and veggies be good for the skin?

Absolutley not true! But don't eat too much or you might get fat.

They'll only break you out if you're allergic to them. Otherwise, they don't affect your skin. It's an old myth--probably one started by parents to keep their teens from eating junk food. :) Bacteria/germs on your skin cause breakouts.
