How long can chili sit out before it is bad?!

Question:

How long can chili sit out before it is bad?

i made chili last night . yesterday night i was getting tired and i turned off the pot of chili. ( beans, ground beef, tomatoes, onions, peppers, mushrooms, pinnapple, and spices). I woke up this morning on the couch and realized that the chili had sat all night up until 11 in the morning. I heated it back up to a soft boil. Can i eat this chili now, or will I get sick?

Answers:
its fine. Chili is indestructable....

you should try to make chili in a crockpot...and just always keep it on. Thats what i do when i go hunting...and any meal that we have meat, we just chop the leftovers up and throw it in the chili...That is the BOMB man...

mmmm I could go for some chili....

Have you never seen that episode of Quincy? Bag it and bin it.

According to my nutrition classes, 2 hours is the maximum amount of time something can sit out. It then needs to be reheated to 150 degrees, or thrown away.

Umm you left meat out overnight. I would not eat that.

I would say a couple of hours would be the max.
Bacteria will start forming and attack the beef and the tomatoes. I wouldn't risk eating it after sitting out all night.

2 hours inside of the temps 40-140 degrees fahrenheit. room temp is within that range so there you go....

Much longer than anyone here knows. ~
I was brought up without refrigerators and have never been sick from spoiled food.
I am still eating from a chicken I bought BBQed 4 days ago, and left THAT outside the fridge. Big deal! The 'outside' temp of course plays into that. Whether the kitchen temp is 65F or 80F will impact the length of time permissible.
If in doubt, something left out and heated to above 165F will be OK as any organisms get boiled and killed.

uh not that long =]

It will be alright to eat now or just let it cool and place covered in the fridge until you want to eat later, or freeze it for another day.
