What's the best way to crack open a coconut?
Just looking for some suggestions as to how to get a nice clean break, and if possible not spill the water everywhere as I want to drink it. Thanks.
Answers:
Use a large nail and hammer and punch 2 of the 3 "eyes" and drain the liquid first. Then put the nut in a bench vice and tighten until shell cracks all the way around. You can break it with a hammer, but it will crush and you will have lots of shell bits and wasted meat. The vise makes a nicer break with no effort.
I use a knife and sledge hammer. It usually works pretty well.

drive a hole with a drill.
1st get an ice pick and make a hole for the straw drink the juice or pour it into a glass. then when its dry you can take a spoon and dig into the yummy insides
Drill the coconut with a drill and drill bit. Drain the coconut juice from it into a glass. Then saw the coconut in half and dig the coconut from the shell. It is a lot of work but should keep you busy for a while.
hit it with the sharp edge of a big knife over a bowl
I always use a hammer and let it rip and it seems to take awhile.I too would like to know if there is an easier way.I have seen guys rip them open with there teeth on tv and fast.
First make a hole in it and drain out the liquid then chop it open with a cleaver or use a mallet or whatever you want to use to break it open.
Drop it out a window. Three stories should do it. It worked for me. I cut out the holes fiorst and drank the milk.
take a "cutlass" chip off the top then cut that side. You will keep the water intact.
put it on the table and slam your head against it really really hard
K well there r many ways to break a coconut lol try a sledge hammer or if u want a clean break try a strong sturdy knife
Hope this helps GOOD LUCK
first into a vice and drill 2 holes about 1 cm in diameter. pour out the coconut juice. back in the vice drill small holes arond the circumference about 1 cm apart. drop hard onto a concrete floor. that does it for me!
1. Hold coconut over a bowl in one hand such that the "midriff" rests in the middle of your palm, with the tip on one end and the eyes on the other.
2. Whack the coconut with the back (that is to say the blunt side) of the cleaver a few times all around the center until it cracks open cleanly into two nearly equal halves. Make sure you use the blunt side of the cleaver.
3. Catch the juice in the bowl as it drains from the cracks.
