Where does the term "Flatware" come from?


Answers:
It is an invention of the late 19th century. The term was developed to distinguish the new stainless steel tableware from true silverware. Technically, the term includes spoons and forks but not knives. Knives come under cutlery. In American practice the terms flatware and cutlery are used interchangeably.
