How do i freeze live scallops that are still in the shell?!

Question:

How do i freeze live scallops that are still in the shell?

a friend of the family has delivered some fresh scallops, they are all alive & still in the shells,do i disconnect them from the shells to freeze,or is there another way

Answers:
take them out of the shell, then freeze

Take them out of the shell first, then freeze. Otherwise if you freeze with the shell it will be really difficult to cook and/or open if the shell and what's inside is frozen shut.

Make sure when you freeze the scallops only they are in something that is void of air and air tight.

why do you want to freeze them? you loose all the taste and freshness. if i were you i would pick a recipe and start cooking them, then after few minutes take them off the heat and cool down using a pan full of cold water. freeze them and eat within 1 month otherwise you loose all the flavour

Very very bad idea to freeze in the shells. Shuck them first and trim the coral if you must, but I prefer to keep it on. If you have any quantity then spread on trays to freeze and then pack in airtight containers so they are not stuck together and you can remove what you want at any time.

Only think about this if they are very fresh. Otherwise don't even give them to the cat.
