What is in oreo icing?!
What is in oreo icing?
I came across a forum on the internets, and one of the posters was mentioning oreo cookies. In a side note, that poster said that he knew "what is in that icing, and [he was] trying not to think about it."
So I googled oreo icing and couldn't find anything other than recipes involving oreos. So what's this gross ingredient I've never heard of?
Answers:
Shortening, sugar, flavouring.
A poster once was asking people if they ever took the Double Stuf Oreos and made Quadruple Stuf Oreos out of them. I asked him why he didn't just buy a can of Crisco, a bag of sugar and a bottle of vanilla extract and make himself a dip for the cookies instead, since they were basically made of this.

I dont really think there is a gross ingredient. Its mainly sugar and cornstarch.

The use of trans fats. Hydrogenation adds hydrogen gas to vegetable oil, helping to solidify it into products such as margarine. Health experts say the process makes them as unhealthy as real butter, if not more so, as the hydrogenated fats act like cholesterol in the body. Trans fats are common in cookies and crackers and part of both the cookie and filling in Oreos.
I think that Nabisco has changed the recipe and the packages now say "no trans fats", but you would need to double check that when you are at the store.
In general, don't expect any processed foods to be very healthy. If you want cookies, buy them from a bakery or someplace where they are baked fresh.
fattning, lard with sugar...taste good, but it is suppose to cause cancer
