Exactly how unhealthy are Hot Dogs?
I only eat them on occasions like today when I was at a BBQ. But I notice, that I tend to get a headache from them. WHat is in these things?
Answers:
There is no fixed specification for hot dog meat, with pork and beef being the most popular. Less expensive hot dogs typically contain chicken, due to the low cost and availability of mechanically separated chicken, and some pork. Hot dogs are generally regarded as unhealthy insofar as most have high sodium, fat and nitrate content. Contents can also be questionable, with cheaper types of hot dogs having been known to contain snouts, ears, and blended organs. In recent years, due to changing dietary preferences in the U.S., manufacturers have turned to turkey, chicken, or vegetarian meat substitutes as well as lowering the salt content.

A US study has linked eating cured meat like bacon and hot dogs with increased risk of lung disease.
Nitrites are added to cured meat such as bacon, hot dogs and cured ham as preservative, colour or as anti-bacterial agents. They are thought to generate reactive nitrogen species in the body -- molecules that cause structural damage to lung tissue, in a similar way to emphysema.

God, I don't want to know what's in them. Same with meat pies. But they taste so good, I cover them in sauce and close my eyes :P
Well basicly hot dogs are broken down in to different types.......The most healthy are "All Beef" . These have less calories and fat and are made of 100% beef. Now there are other kinds and listed on the label it may say "Made with Chicken, Pork, and Beef"....... these are the left over parts such as liver, and other kinds of nastyness

On food ingredient labels, MSG often falls under:
"Natural Flavors",
even though there is nothing natural about it.
Then, there's the cancer-causing Nitrates...
I'm fairly certain the nitrates are what gave you the headache, simply based on what I've read over the years.
The quality of the hot dog that you buy can make all the difference in the world. If you want to eat a hot dog, go with a kosher dog. Hebrew National makes a good kosher dog.
ummmm lets see chicken parts ( except the meat) or cows organs and such put it this way everything that does NOT sell from the animal goes into hot dogs so if it says all beef hot dogs that just means they used parts from cows and chicken from chickens and so on.nothing good goes into hot dogs so dont believe the hype i should know my brother worked at a hot dog factory!!
