Why cant you buy turkey eggs?!

Question:

Why cant you buy turkey eggs?

Answers:
You can here. Because turkeys don't produce a lot of eggs - they are mostly sold for hatching new turkeys.

itd be disgusting

really? is that what you want to do with a turkey? breed it for eggs?

I ate the turkey and then I ate his leg!!!

Try looking on ebay.

My mother bought some bantam chicken eggs on there last week and they are now in an incubator hopefully developing into baby chicks!

There aren't any frying pans big enough to cook them.

Coz I don't have any money, plus I don't live in Turkey.

i think the reason is that like geese eggs they dont taste very nice

Probably because they lay so few of them that you would need so many turkeys to keep up with the amount that you get from chickens that farms don't even bother.

do turkeys even lay eggs?!?

You can buy them but they do not taste very good so the market does not support the sale other than to breeders.

Try fitting one of them in an eggcup

Turkeys don't lay that many eggs, and the ones they do lay are used to produce more turkeys. The average egg-laying chicken lays 300 or so eggs per year, while the average turkey produces only 100 to 120. Chickens come into production at 19 to 20 weeks of age, but turkeys don't get cranking until 32 weeks. Turkeys are also much larger, averaging 16 to 17 pounds compared to 3.5 pounds for chickens. So you'd need a lot more room for a bird that would take a lot longer to produce a lot fewer eggs.

Another problem is that turkeys go "broody" easily--they want to sit on their eggs and incubate them. In contrast, egg-producing white leghorn chickens have had the broodiness bred out of them. They lay and lay and have no desire to incubate their offspring or otherwise be maternal.

If you want to buy turkey eggs try ebay but they are for hatching

Maybe it's more of a money spinner for turkey farmers to hatch the eggs and have loads of turkeys to sell for Christmas dinner.

you can if you look hard enough

its not a bad idea today i made a cake the recipies need three eggs but turkey egg only one will do too much protien
