Why are red bell peppers so much more expensive that green bell peppers?!

Question:

Why are red bell peppers so much more expensive that green bell peppers?

Answers:
Red peppers are actually ripened green peppers!

(the green ones are not ripened)

So It takes longer and more care for them to ripen this = more cost to grow and keep them=higher price at the market!

Green peppers BECOME red peppers if left on the plant. If peppers are picked before they turn red, the plant can begin producing again more quickly. Once they become red, they expire more quickly, so its really just an economic concern for the producers and packers. They cost more to produce and are more fragile to pack and ship, so they cost more.

They are the same pepper, the red ones are left on the plant longer to turn red and they are riper, therefore they are more perishable and won't keep as long. All you really gain from letting them ripen is to get the color.

Question. If you think a green pepper will turn red when ripe, then do you think a red pepper will turn yellow when really ripe or say orange when really really ripe???

These are different peppers people.......red's must be in shorter supply hence the price difference......
