Do bananas last longer if you store them in the fridge?!

Question:

Do bananas last longer if you store them in the fridge?

I like bananas but cannot often buy them because i've found that they "go bad" too fast. I don't eat them everyday, I just buy them and eat them every so often, but a lot of times I will only have eaten one or two from a bunch, and then I have to throw them out. I guess i'm just used to apples lasting forever and sometimes forget bananas aren't the same way. What can I do to make my bananas last longer?

Answers:
Other than making banana bread, try to only buy 2 or 3 at a time. You CAN break off just what you want from the bunch. If that fails, you can peel the bananas and wrap tightly in plastic wrap and freeze whole. They aren't quite the same as fresh, but make excellent smoothies, banana splits, mashed nanner and peanut butter sandwiches, or even sliced on cereal. Don't forget Bananas Foster, or after defrosted, carmelize in a bit of butter and brown sugar. Yum

You can store them in the fridge.....the peel will turn dark, but the fruit will still be good. They will never last as long as apples though, so try the freezing method.

yes

buy the realy green bananas put them on ur counter then they went go bad tell jsut start turning yellow

I think yes because that is how I store them, but many other people may have different opinions.

No. the cold will make them ripen quicker and go bad faster.

If you put them in the fridge they will turn black very fast, just keep them in an open area.

Yes cooler the air around them faster they brown

No

much longer

Only buy 2 or 3 at a time, for starters. If you put them in the fridge, they will last a little longer, however, the color of the peel looks a little gross after a day or two. The fruit is still good, though, they keep their firmness.

The best thing to do is, when you but the bananas, take 2 different colors. You can brake the bunches apart, you dont have to buy the whole thing, so take 2 that are yellow, 2 that are part yellow and green and take 2 that are all green. They will ripen a few days apart. You can also put them in the refrigerator. They will turn brown very fast because the skin reacts to the cold in that way, but the actual banana inside will ripen much slower.

Well actually putting bananas in the fridge actually turn them brown... not sure why, but one day I thought I would like them cold better than warm and in a day they were brown. I have the same problem and never seem to be able to eat them all before they expire. I just try and buy them greener and not buy a whole bundle, just buy 3 at a time or whatever. When they are too green you can put one in a brown paper bag and that will ripen it faster while the rest last longer. When they do go brown you can always use them for banana bread instead of throwing them out, I guess it is a good thing they are cheap if ya have to. hope this helps.??

yes they do,the skin goes black but the fruit is still ok

Yes, they turn bad faster if the surrounding is hot.

Nope. Just put them on the counter, preferably hanging.

Don't buy so many at a time. Two or three would suffice.
