What foods and spices can aid digestion of greasy food?!

Question:

What foods and spices can aid digestion of greasy food?

My husband cooked a delicious omelette this morning, and while I enjoyed it, it was heavy. I'd like to eat something that will help cut the grease and help me digest it so it doesn't sit so heavily in my stomach.

Answers:
Greasy food means high fat food, and the best thing to do is eat as much fiber with it as you can. Many vegetables are shown to help reduce the negative effects that a high fat meal can have on the arteries. They include tomatoes, carrots, and onions. So, for instance, get your pizza with sliced tomatoes and onions on it, or have a bigger than usual salad along with it. If you are having a starch with greasy food, choose whole grains like brown rice over white rice. Do sweet potatoes or yams instead of regular potatoes.
If you are having a salad, make sure it is full of shredded carrots, tomatoes, and onions. Have an extra (not overcooked) vegetable with it as well.
Ginger is great at aiding digestion, so flavor something with fresh ginger at a high fat meal. Parsley and basil can be beneficial as well, but not as potent as ginger.
Against popular belief, don't drink too much water with or right after a big meal. The water works against digestion by "watering down" the acids in your stomach that do the work, and it can cause the food to "lay" in your stomach longer, increasing the chances of indigestion to occur.
Of course, eating greasy foods in moderation is the best way to avoid the indigestion that can result, but indulging is one of life's pleasures, so just do it wisely. Now go grab a carrot stick and plan your feast!
