This is from The American Egg Board:

There have been warnings against consuming raw or lightly cooked eggs on the grounds that the egg may be contaminated with Salmonella, a bacteria responsible for a type of food poisoning.

With eggs and all other raw foods from animals, there is a small possibility of Salmonella food poisoning. The risk is greater for those who are pregnant, elderly or very young and those with medical problems which have impaired their immune systems. These individuals should avoid raw and undercooked animal foods.

Healthy people need to remember that there is a very small risk and treat eggs and other raw animal foods accordingly. Use only properly refrigerated, clean, sound-shelled, fresh, grade AA or A eggs. Avoid mixing yolks and whites with the shell. Refrigerate broken-out eggs, prepared egg dishes and other foods if you won't be consuming them within an hour.

its fine but they are disgusting i would rather drink my own urine.........
oh hang on i do drink my own urine

That's pretty disgusting. I suppose it's not unhealthy granted you aren't unfortunate enough to have salmonella infected eggs

Well I personally would probably hurl trying to eat even one raw egg.
But personal taste aside, I'm not sure about the long term effect on heath (probably not much) but there IS a risk of a serious Salmonella infection. While makeing most people merely violently sick for a few days, it has already killed children and elderly people. Be careful and only take fresh eggs that were refrigerated until consumption, to keep the risk low.

You risk getting salmonella or listeria from it-not worth the risk. Especially if they are commercially farmed eggs, which would be full of growth hormones, steroids, antibiotics, and traces of urine and feces. If you want a healthy way to get omega 3 oil, try grinding some flax seeds, mix 2 tablespoons of flax powder to 5 tablespoons of eggs, which will be the exact consistancy of the eggs. They add nice body to smoothies.

its ok as long as they are pasterized.

Drinking raw eggs is definitely NOT tasty... they're disgusting and slimy... but if you're going to eat them this way, you can buy pasteurized eggs, like Eggland's Best brand eggs, which are safer to eat than unpasteurized. I still wouldn't recommend that though, because no matter what, eating raw eggs of any kind is an invitation for food poisoning.

Th3y Say it iz but i mean EWWWW i would never do it!!!

If the eggs are from the grocery store, before the expiry date, you can try to drink them. Nothing wrong will happen. Of course, they may seem yucky but if, say, you beat them, like for omelet and add a tsp of sugar and a few drops of rum or vanilla extract they can be actually tasty. My grandmother used to make cakes using this mix added to the dough and, as a kid, I was always eating a good part of it. it was good and, believe me, nothing bad ever happened to me because I ate the eggs raw. Actually they are healthy because can increase your blood iron level and also, it is said they are good to keep your voice in shape (if you are a singer).
The same mix , poured in hot milk, and drank as hot as you can, can help you cure sore throat.

whenever my granny was ill she would drink .
a raw egg mixed with orange juice and sherry. she lived to a ripe old age..salmonella is a smallmrisk so dont do it ifyou ae pregnant just in case

From the store or fresh from the barn?
the FDA checks the egg ranch often
Free range are allowed to eat ANYTHING including dead birds gophers mice and any kind of bug .
Where as at the egg ranch they feed specially prepared grains and vegetable matter.
There is a chance you can get e.coli or what ever
You get the runs see a Dr.

Some people do it for protein, just make sure there isnt bacteria in your eggs.

=]

My father used to whisk one or two up with milk. Worcestershire and drink them if he had a hangover.
Never tried them myself, so I don't know if that works or not.

Fresh free range eggs should be OK, but would not recommend it for the old/young. I did it for a short time when weight training. great for building muscle in this field.
Am sure wannabe rocky boxers follow this style.

If Rocky can do it why not.

The latest information is: Only 1 in 20,000 eggs have salmonella. Salmonella is on the OUTSIDE of the egg, not in the egg.

So enjoy your raw eggs. Just don't let the inside get on the outside, like when you crack it open, or pour it into your glass.

If your drinking raw eggs you are at risk for salmanella and some other kind of bacteria I dont rember what one though right now. They even recommend not letting your kids lick the beaters when making a cake because of this.

Eggs are a good source of protein. If your going to try it I suggest you mix them into some milk....but as with all high protein diets, be prepared to lose some of you friends, due to some industrial strength flatulence.

ohhh no.think about the salmonella
