?

All food has to have a best before date to be sold legally!

All foods has a sell by or use by date, the only foodstuff excempt is Honey.

all food should have these. sell by date means just what it says it has to be sold by said date
b b date, means the food will be top notch b4, but after that date its still ok to eat, but the quality starts to deteriorate.

All foods have a best before date this is a quality issuse and means that the food will still be macrobiologicaly safe to eat after this date however might not be at its best quality

The use bye date however is on the foodstuff for safety reasons as it is not macrobilologically safe to eat after this date and you could poison yourself

to put it into broad terms most foods with use bye dates are high protein foods or foods with high dairy contents think of fresh meat or milk or fresh pasta
most foods with best before dates are prepacked foods which are quite dry or have been preserved using other methods such as canning these can be anything from biscuits to canned beans

Sell by is an odd one, coz thats store lead. Do you mean Use By?

Anyhoo....anything fresh will be use by (especially stuiff that goes off quick) best before can still be consumed after that date, it just wont be at its best. Thats anything from beans to bread!

Have a look in your cupboard :D

Use By dates are used on products which have a short shelf life. i.e. a few days to a couple of weeks such as cooked meat and salads. After the Use By date the food is not considered safe to eat. These are used in conjunction with Sell by Dates. Any processing the food has undergone will only have reduced the bacterial loads to safe levels and not eliminated them altogether. This means over time the bacterial present will multiply to unsafe levels.
A Best Before date is put on products which have a longer shelf life such as canned food, frozen food or jars of sauces. A typical Best Before date only gives the month and year. Food can be safely eaten after this date but the quality may have suffered.
