Can you ship food by mail?!

Question:

Can you ship food by mail?

I picked 13 pounds of strawberries and I want to send some to my mom, who lives in another state. Should I freeze them first, or just leave them fresh? And can I ship them to her by US Mail or Fed Ex ... etc?

Thanks for answering this.

Answers:
I used to work at a meat packing plant and sent my parents fresh pork all the time.

Don't freeze it.

Package it firmly and store with ice packs on the top and bottom of the package. Place in an insulated box. Send overnight via Federal Express.

You should freeze them first and ship them through the fastest method possible. When you pack them you need to wrap them in plastic so that when the strawberries thaw they won't soak through the packaging. I don't think it matters which parcel service you use unless there are local differences.

Yes you can. Freeze the strawberries then put them in a tight sealed container. Put in a trash bag with some dry ice over the container to keep it cool during shipment then tie the bag tight so it will not wet the package. Send ASAP, FedEx the best way.

May people send cookie or goodie packages to others at college or to service men all the time.
You can order foods from other states and have them sent.

To send strawberries, do not freeze. They will lose their firmness and get juice all over. If they are packed in a sturdy container where they can not move around, and they can not be crushed, they can be sent by overnight mail. US
