What do you spend per week for groceries?
Including paper goods, toiletries etc. I have a family of 6---two adults, four kids ages 10-15. Includes cold lunches for school, and we rarely eat out. I'm budgeting with my husband and he can't understand why I need more than $100 per week. I'm asking for $125, and don't want to live off of mac and cheese and hot dogs. At the same time, I don't expect steak.

Its really tough, you know...I was amazed at first on just how much it costs for food every week, when I first moved out we lived on ramen and tuna...it really makes you appreciate how much your parents did for you. Lets see...Ive been married & weve been on our own for about 2 years now....we also have a roommate...and we ALWAYS manage to spend at least 100 a week for food..including eating out, but we pretty much get whatever we want, now...so based on my lifestyle it sounds like you are doing AMAZINGLY well with four! kids wow! I have a new respect for you lol....
I could suggest going to food stores like IGA or SAVE-A-LOT? (dont know what you have in your area)...but we were amazed at the amount of money we saved by going there over the span of a month

Good luck to you!
I am only feeding 2 adults and it cost 100 dollars a week. Unless like you said, if we live off of mac and cheese and hot dogs. We like to make good meals and that cost more. I sure don't envy you feeding 2 kids. Tell hubby to find another way to cut costs because good food and nutrition are very important for your children. 25 more dollars really isn't much to ask for when it comes to your children's health.
i am feeding only 2 adults for about 40/50 $ a week. we don't live off macaroni and hotdogs!! my advice...use coupons.
In my household I spend $100 a week on everything and there is only 2 of us (me and my husband). With 4 kids, I'd say you definitely need the $125.
We hardly ever eat out and I hardly ever buy any expensive meat like steak or roasts.
The $100 is usually spent on lunch meat (to go to work with), ground beef, chicken breasts, condiments, frozen and fresh veggies, fruit and toilitries. I also buy my laundry detergent, toothpaste, etc at the grocery store.
My hat goes off to you for making this all work on $125 a week !!! Wow!!! The Today show reported last week that due to gas prices , groceries are on a national average 25% higher than just a few months ago. I really don't see how you do it with lunches and cleaning supplies, laundry and paper products. My average is $200 per week on average and that takes into acct all of those things. We are a family of 4 and I do a lot of cooking rather than buying packaged foods.. You must eat a lot of pasta!!!!!!! =)
Take him to the grocery store with you one shopping trip so he can see up close for himself just how much things cost. I have a family of three (myself, husband, and a teenager) and $125 per week is cutting it close just for us! I can't imagine how you'd make it work for a family of six, esp. when it includes cold lunches at school. I supplement our budget with coupons I find from the Internet and from the fliers/inserts in the paper, and watch the grocery store ads for double coupons, etc. You can't afford to be store or brand loyal nowadays, either! Sometimes stores will honor a competitor's price or coupons just to get you to shop with them, so watch for those kinds of deals as well, so you don't have to hit three stores in order to get the best deals.
If he argues with you about food, then cut back with him first.I purchase about 80 per week for me and hubby. That includes the food for all my tribe once a week. There is 15 of us ,so I buy plenty.Never argue about food money,if not used this week it will be eaten next week...
I'm feeding myself boyfriend, and 3 yr old son. Everything included (soap shampoo cleaners etc.) it costs roughly $100 sometimes more sometimes less.
My hubby, toddler and I usually go for 100 a week. But occasionally I will run out of something and have to go back to the store through the week.
I don't know if this counts since we don't live in the states anymore. When we did we spend about 150$ on a family of 4 and that was without steaks including shampoo and cleaning supplies that was just a few months ago
Now we spend about 400ron a week which is about 200 US and that also includes cleaning supplies and a 19% food tax.
I suggest making him shop with you or making him do it. My dh was complaining before we moved so I quit shopping and made him do it. He shut up real quick.
We spend about $50/week for two, but my daughter works in a restaurant and eats only 2-3 main meals at home each week. We shop at a discount grocery store like Aldi's, and at a wholesale club too. Some weeks we spend more, we never spend less. For 6 people you would need at least $150 each week, around here. (Groceries are a bit cheaper in other areas of our state.)
If I were you I'd tell your husband, okay, show me! For 4 weeks we'll take $100/week to the grocery store, and you show me how it works! He'll get the idea pretty fast when he sees for himself. And who knows, he might have some good ideas!
