Is the ice cream van becoming a thing of the past?!

Question:

Is the ice cream van becoming a thing of the past?

We had an icecream van down our street for the first time since i have lived here (just over 4 years) Are they becoming a thing of the past or are they just avoiding my area?(P.S. I don't live in a rough area).

Answers:
when i was a kid i nearly pissed myself with excitement when the icecream man came around. Bring back the icecream man thats what i say

Still plenty of them around here.

We hear one quite frequently where I live - it plays the Blue Peter theme tune!

There's at least one comes round my street almost every day.

One goes past my house twice a day

I don't think so, maybe you just don't live in a high populated area or maybe it's not populated enough. I live in New York City and I see them around quite often.

My husband & I were just talking about the Ice Cream Truck not running anymore in our area either. It must be a thing of the past because I can remember living in the same area as a kid and we had one daily.

they are disappearing just like the fish & chip vans

depends on the driver and how many kids are on your street

There becoming a thing of the past but they wont go out of business yet.

not where i live they come around at least three times a day !

i remember when... the same guy came out on the same night serving ice cream (on old fashioned cones) none of that fake water and sugare stuff....i havent seen an ice cream truck in the neighborhood in 10 years

Nope it still drives by my house in wales 2/3 times a day, so dont give up hopes just yet.
xxx

Not in my neighborhood, the music drives me crazy.

However, with growing concerns about pedophilia and news stories of vendors luring young kids, I bet it hurt their business tremendously.

Our ice cream truck comes in our neighborhood every week and has since I've lived here. What's funny is that the music is sort of oriental, so I always say "the oriental ice cream lady is here". Even my beagles recognize the music! I'm guessing that there just wasn't a route in your neighborhood. It's nice to see the old items still on the side of the truck.

I can't remember, but i think ice cream van has came down my street before

That's one of my first memories... The ice cream truck. The neighbours wouldn't give their children money though. *tear* I miss the ice cream truck :(

Do you pay them, or do you just take the ice cream and run real fast? Be honest with yourself. Now don't you think that might have something to do with it?

They come by several times a day where I live.

Yes in some places they are but i dont mind you can buy ice cream much cheaper at the store

theres one that comes on the estate where i work everday..
we also have 1 on our area which plays match of the day theme tune..

it almost never does in mine and it does several times in the summer, but i never have trusted it b/c you dont know what that ice cream has in it or has touched, i only bought double bubble one time from it and it was bubble gum in a wrapper... we throw tennis balls at the things and flick em off and stuff cuz they get in the way in the summer when we play baseball in the road, they drive so SLOW, and the music drives you crazy... i yell cuss words sometimes...

Got a '99 from one yesterday at the Brighton marina, so maybe just avoiding your area (haha).

"They travel the world in their ice cream van, they've voyaged to the bottom of time. They've been to the place where the Mu-Mu mate, and the children still cry 'Mine's a 99!'"

the ice cream man is still alive here in TEXAS i think we just don't see them like when we were kids is because we are working all the time. but ya now that it's summer i've heard it several times.

Ice cream trucks used to be more popular than they are now. However, there are areas where ice cream trucks come regularly. At my school, there are many people who have to walk up a long and steep hill, and they come across the clever ice cream man, who waits there every day, seeing them so hot and tired. This ice cream man gets lots of business, as do many others. So there are many ice cream men around schools and popular neighborhoods, but they are also a species that is soon becoming extinct to us.

What happened to the Creamsicle and the Fudgesicle on the good ol' ice cream truck? We used to pay a dime for an ice cream bar. AAAhhhh...the good old days. Thanks for that memory. I gotta give you a star for that one.

They still drive down my road with me running behind shouting "stop mr, I want a 99"

when i was a kid i didn't live where i live now but its the same ice cream 'man' who came round 20+ years ago and he remembers us,my sis lives in another area he goes there too! he's been doing this round all those years, still does.

No. I've lived in two very different areas in the last year and van's have visited both. It obviously depends on availability of shops, whether there is someone interested in running a van, age profile of the area etc.

you can set your clock by the ice cream man round where we live except in the summer when you want one as they all go up the coast
