Should schools allow junk food? Why or Why Not?!

Question:

Should schools allow junk food? Why or Why Not?

I think they should not because of the growing obesity in children.

Answers:
No way. Its ridiculous even if it does help the school.

No they shouldn't because sugar buzzes would drive a teacher to retirement.

you are right kids are too fat these days.

It should be allowed in High Schools, not in Grade Schools, or Junior High,

I agree, there's too much fat in junk food and it's not healthy in children, plus they'll get sicker easier eating all that crap/

yeah, i agree with you.
they should promote healthier food. but honestly, they've gotta have a wide variety out there. sometimes they have no choice but to include junk food, sadly =[

No. Junk food is full of sugar which affects the Neurotransmitter Endorphins (Psychological / physical pain, relief, pleasure, reward, good / loving feelings towards others) and Serotonin (Emotional stability, pain, tolerance, self-confidence). This isn't something the school should serve just like they shouldn't serve Endorphin elevators like Heroin, marijuana, alcohol, and tobacco; or Serotonin up-lifters like marijuana, ecstasy, and tobacco. If the parents want to do it.... that's okay. But, for a school to serve junk food is irresponsible.

if there parents pack it then sure.

Absolutely not! I think they are just too cheap to give more nutritious foods out at schools.

No, it takes a long time for people to realize that you've got to live a balanced lifesytle....in high school, most people dont' realize this.

I think it should be very very limited to a couple things and a majority of healthy snacks...you are not going to change all kids minds on eating habits but you may change some at least with more healthy choices available and less junk.

no they shouldnt but yet they should sell like tropicana juices and stuff. because at my school they dont only water....

No kids need to be healthy

There should be an equal choice in foods in the cafeteria. And equally as delicious. Between healty and junk.

No Junk food because it isn't healthy and children these day's are getting used to fast food,,, and too many soda''s we need to help them stay in good health.....

If it keeps the little tykes in school, why the heck not have a few junk snacks! Failing a math test can be depressing....pass the skittles, I have to practice my counting.

I think they should cause not every body is overweight. and for those who r well...

nope, because all kids need to eat, and if their only choices are healthy, thats what they will eat.
Include good things like hummos and pita
chicken wraps, chicken burgers, thai salads, etc.
The high school here does that, and it works really well, if the kids want junk, they have to walk like 6 blocks to get it, and most of them say its not worth it.

What do you mean by "allow"? I do'nt think schools should sell junk food, but then I think schools should only sell food for lunch (and breakfast, if necessary). Snacks and soda pop and stuff aren't part of the school's mission. However, if kids want to bring that from home for lunch, then that's okay.

>No.

Why?... What part of "junk" don't you understand?<

I deffinantly think there shouldn't be any junkfood in schools now. I try to avoid them but sometimes my craving gets the best of me and it puts a dent in my diet. I think they should fill the machines with healthier snacks, like dried fruits and other healthy quick gives. and the pop machines should be just filled with waters and gatorade and other things like that.

I feel if a parent send a lunch to school with their child and it has junk food then they have no right to say anything, but they should not allow children to swap their treats with other kids. I do not feel they should make it available to the children thru the school tho.

Almost like telling parents...we care about your childrens health but if you dont, then let them eat whatever they want.

I don't think it matters either way because if they don't get it at school they'll get it somewhere else. In an idealistic society that would be nice but we don't live in one. Plus, it's not really the school to blame. Part of the reason that alot of children are obese is because of the parents not limiting their intake of crappy (healthwise) food.

No, yes because of the obesity epidemic killing our country. I don't understand how they can enrich the mind and slowly kill the body. And usually it's because junk food is cheaper than healthy choices and they don't want to spend the money.

I think that schools should allow SOME junk food, but not that much because as long as the kids stay relatively active and have an otherwise healthy diet, a small amount of junk food shouldn't do too much damage. On the flip side though, they also need to be eating a healthy diet at home because otherwise it won't do very much good to only have 1 balanced meal per day.

They should...this is America where you have the right to serve what you want without government interference. We should put the responsibility back on the parents. We don't hold them or the children accountable for anything anymore. They think someone else will do it for them - such as schools. Schools don't raise children, parents do. Schools are here to educate not regulate.

no Our children are getting to fat now

I agree with you, look at all the fat people around now, they all eat junk food cause they are too lazy to get off their fat butts to actually cook a healthy meal. Then they teach their kids these bad habits and so it goes on. Say "NO" to fried foods, hot dogs, fried chicken, fatty pizzas. Make your own but in a healthy way. Pizzas on pitta bread & low fat cheese, baked crumbed chicken (sprayed with oil), baked chips (not fried). We cant just blame the schools, its up to all the parents out there to make a stand. When the kids eat right their behaviour changes for the better (no more moody kids), and they have more energy therfore they tend to get involved in sports.

Yes they should school food is NASTY!!!!!!!!!!!

yes and no dress codes should be aloud either
