Can mold grow inside a chocolate truffle?!

Question:

Can mold grow inside a chocolate truffle?

I bit into a chocolate truffle and discovered a thin, even layer of green fuzzy/gooey stuff between the outer chocolate shell and the filling inside - was this mold? It didn't smell/taste funny. I spit it out immediately... GROSS! I don't think I'll ever be able to eat chocolate again!

Answers:
Sure can and it's nasty !

Common reason is that Air got into it; but it can be from being stored too long as well.

yes

Yes, it was mould. The filling is often made with cream as an ingredient, and can therefore go mouldy.
Actually, the higher quality chocolates which use good quality, real ingredients will go mouldy faster than low quality ones that contain more chemicals and preservatives.
