What's better - white or wheat rice?!

Question:

What's better - white or wheat rice?

I've been told that neither is bad for you as long as nothing has been added to it but some say white rice is still too fatting for you. Which is it?
Thanks.

White vs. Brown

Many health fanatics automatically choose brown rice when selecting a side dish to accompany their meal. The fact is, however, that both varieties of rice are good for you. A cup of white has about the same amount of calories as brown, but far less fat. (.8 grams per serving vs. 2.4 grams per serving) However, brown rice is much higher in fiber than the white variety, with 2.8 grams of dietary fiber per serving versus .6 grams. Most other nutritional values are similar.

I personally prefer Brown Jasmine Rice.

I like white, not sure what's better for you though.

Wheat is generally better for you, but they are both about the same nutrtionally. I prefer the TASTE of wheat rice over the taste of white rice however.

It's brown rice, not wheat rice. And the brown is closer to a whole grain because it hasn't been stripped of it's outer layers, that's why it's brown.

I prefer white rice . but i has no nutritional value other than carbohydrates . eating whole grain rice is a much healthier choice because it has loads of fiber. but it is hard so don't expect it to get mushy!!

i don't believe there is a wheat rice you might mean brown rice
is better for you because white rice is over prosed there is a brown rice diet and most health nuts will tell you brown rice

korkie

What are you asking

WHEAT RICE
where did that come from????
No NO NO

There is no such thing as "wheat rice." Wheat and rice are grain products from two very different plants. You are probably asking about brown rice. White rice has had its husk and bran layers removed. Brown rice has had only the outer husk removed. As a result, it is higher in nutrition (more vitamins and minerals) and fiber than plain white rice. White rice is not inherently fattening (people from all over Asia have eaten rice for thousands of years, and obesity, high blood pressure, and diet-related illnesses have begun to emerge only with the arrival of western -- especially American -- ways of eating). What people who say that mean is that the balance of nutrition to calories is not as beneficial as brown rice. I eat both types of rice. Which I choose depends upon the meal. If I'm making something classically Asian, then I use the white rice. If I am making something where the flavor and texture of brown rice won't seem odd, then I use the brown.

You can compare the nutritional benefits of brown vs white rice:

I would have to say that healthwise brown rice (not wheat) is better. http://www.drlam.com/opinion/brown_rice_...

both

There is no such thing as "wheat" rice. It is brown rice. White rice is simply bleached and shucked brown rice. Brown rice contains more vitamins and is better for you
