Salt causes water to freeze at lower temperatures, so therefore makes the slushy a lot colder and won't melt as fast.

Salt lowers the melting temperature of ice, allowing the ice to get colder than 32oF.

Salt and ice makes things a lot colder! I know from experience because just last week we did an experiment in chemistry with salt and ice and it was a lot colder than normal ice! So maybe so that the slushy won't melt and you can actually chew it and enjoy it!

so it wont get stick to your tang

you use ice you use salt in a ice cream machine
