Why do my ice cubes break when removing them from the tray?!

Question:

Why do my ice cubes break when removing them from the tray?

Almost every time I take my ice cubes from the tray, they break in half. I have tried running water over the backs of the trays, but they still break. Is there a trick to this? Is my freezer to warm or too cold?

Answers:
egger is actually wrong... using hot water is what makes your ice cubes break when removing them from the tray.

Test it out. Freeze a tray with hot water and one with super cold water. You will find that the hot water does freeze faster but the the cubes break apart when you try to get them out of the tray. My old bar manager told me that was the easiest way to make crushed ice for frozen drinks without having to do any crushing.

Just use cold water and you'll get whole cubes.
Hope this helps.

Are there air bubble in the ice cubes? Sometimes that happens to me...Sorry Im not of much help!

=]

It's proabaly air bubbles, the water might not be completely frozen through quite yet. try turning up the temp in your freezer.

Use HOT water in your trays, as hot as you can get, for some reason of physics hot water freezes faster than cold and as an added benfit they break out nice and clean.
