Humans are the only species on earth to drink the milk produced by another species, although it's mainly in the western world that cows milk is consumed by people. There are many countries in the world where the drinking of cows milk is unheard of.

It's an ethical dilemma this question. On the one hand, milk is very good for all those who are not allergic to it. On the other hand, the cruelty involved in modern, intensive dairy farming is horrendous.

Most dairy cows are now bred to put all their energy into the production of milk, which is why they are much skinnier than dairy cows used to be. The shape of their bodies results in many very difficult, painful births.

When the calf is born, it is taken away from its' mother after the first feed. The milk is now for us and not the calf that it was intended to feed. The mother can be in geat distress for up to 6 weeks as it calls for, and tries to find its' calf.

You know, of course, that their are no male calves in a dairy herd - farmers don't want them because they cannot produce milk. Some male calves are retained for breeding but most of them are killed shortly after birth because they are worthless.

Some drink goats milk too! Y are the cows complaining?

what would you prefer to drink monkeys milk? cows mile is the best thing for you besides mothers milk

yes why not?it tastes good and is good for you

Well its not really true that cows want it back you know- its just an advert!!

I don't see any reason why not- its full of goodness for us and the cows need to be rid of it. Some people, l ike myself do become allergic to it but i have have goats milk and am much more suited to it. I can only see its bad for people who are allergic to it.

yes its good for you....

I assume you're talking about milk being a product of the veal trade - kill the calf and use the cow's milk for human consumption.
I try not to think about it.....

thats the only way we are gonna get calcium, besides we are not hurting the cow.

Oh no, it's wrong to drink milk... I mean, it is so wrong for the cows because milking them is treating them badly, and it's good to get calcium deficiency and brittle bones disease...!

...Of course it's OK to drink milk. Why would anyone be against it, out of interest?

And I would like to say - there's too much milk for the calf to drink! It doesn't drink all of it, that's why we take some of the cow's milk - a certain percentage (don't know what value) goes towards the calf, and the rest to us.

Of course, we have been doing it forever. I saw on the news(i think fox) the other night that they found a way to make cows milk come out as skim milk, and no i'm not kidding...sit on that for a minute!!

maybe at times it is good to sustain nutritive requirements of our body,,,

i don't see why not. the question is: "should cows drink human milk?"

mooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo...

Should humans eat pork, meat, chicken? They were not intended for this purpose but we still do it. Should we therefore wear wool? It was made to keep sheep warm, not us.
We have adapted to the world in which we live-drinking milk is just using the resources of the world around us.

good for you-the cows would not be bred otherwise

I don't but more people do than don't

Only in a land bursting at the seams with food are people complaining about whether it's ethical to drink milk now.

Do you think people in the Sahel would turn away milk?

I certainly hope you are talking about vegetarians because I'd freak out if someone told me milk was wrong and then they chomp on a few eggs or a steak.

I consider myself an animal and nature lover but accept the advantages brought on by domestication.

Cow's milk is perfectly fine.
What humans shouldn't be consuming are shark's fins and tiger penises.

The sun doesn't shine to aid the growth of crops either, it shines because it is a star, close enough to provide heat for the planet we live on. Should we not exploit that also?
Both are 'nature' and 'natural' aren't they?

Nothing has grown 'for' human consumption and are all aided by another natural reason. If humans didn't eat anything that wasn't specifically created for them, we'd be left to eat ourselves, even then one could question that my neighbour wasn't grown for my consumption either.

I drink milk from contented cows, I eat beef. But I don't hunt for food in the wild. I shop til I drop. Also adding to the list of the one above me, is plants grow soley to produce seed for future plants. Vegetarians should not eat plants or vegetables for that reason! Come on now. If we don't eat from what God gave us to eat, what shall happen to us?

Defends how you feel drinking it considering it is from a cows utter which its calf should instead. I like cow & soya milk so I don't might which I have. If they sold Soya milk in 1 ,2 ,4, 6 pints cartons and was cheap then I would buy that instead but unfortunately.

Yes.

Sure, why not. Animals are for the use of humans, as said in the Bible. God slayed animals for the consumption of Adam and Eve, as well as for clothing. So, of course, humans are perfectly fine drinking cows milk.

I would rather not drink the glandular secretions of an animal.
