How long does it take for ice cream to go bad?!

Question:

How long does it take for ice cream to go bad?

My story: I went to catch a cab, home..and the cab went twice to the wrong store to pick me up(which never happens!) so, I have waited two and a half hours to get a cab! by the time I get home....(it was still icy cold..but, not freezing, when I finally got home to put it into the freezer!) but,.my ice cream is creamier than usual(it is a slow churned ice cream..supposed to be soft, and has splenda in it)
I checked the ice cream about 6-7 hours later...and it is mushy.I would like to know if it is safe to still eat this ice cream or not?
thanks! I really need to know,as I have already had my share of "food poisoning" and I honestly do NOT want to go thru that again!!

Answers:
until it melts

Relax! You can keep ice-cream in the freezer for 6 to 8 months before it will go bad. Just make sure you keep it in a well sealed container, so no ice crystals get in.

Ice cream uses materials that are pasteurized. So despite the long ride home, your treat is safe to eat.

Ice cream left outside in the heat would melt and sour after many hours. In the freezer, it can last for months.

it is safe,it just might be a different consistency

When on doubt, throw it out.I would say that the slow churned is burned. If it will not refreeze and look normal, remember it is a milk product.Food poisoning can be painful...

read the date on the carton

It is fine. The slow churned is softer than the ice cream you are used to.

its safe to eat. it may nto refreeze to the hard state it was for a wuite a while. companies use a deep freeze or blast chiller of usually below 0 to get it that hard and keep it that way. home freezers arent so cold. its pretty soft because of that. so go ahead eat it up.

usually when I see freezer burn on mine

Yer fine, though he texture is never the same!!! Dumb cabbie!

if you have if out for about 30 min. it will melt and get mushy, dont leave it out to long, but if you get it in the freezer on time it will go bad within a 1 week or 2.
