Would you class chips (French fries to our american friends) as vegetables?
Answers:
Yes, they are grown and sold as vegetables and remain vegetables however they are cooked
LOL no! POTATOES aren't even vegetables! they're carbs!
But i still love eating them =D
Yes but not in a steamed healthy way.
No not in the healthy sense I'd class them as junk food
They are made with vegetables but when processed they are classified as 'junk food' in america :).
I thinik so. They usually make up thre or four of my five a day
no, and according to my midwife potatoes arent meant to be included in your 5 a day either
no
as they're more fat/oil, than potato.
Eh... maybe 1% vegetable 99% salt and fat
I just finished a dietary study with Duke University and they claim that French Fries can be classified as a veggie if they are a thick cut, like a steak frie. But if they are thin like a shoestring cut or a potato chip, they are classified as fats.
A reasonable portion of fries can be considered a vegetable. Just like fried zucchini, egg plant or any other fried veggie.
A basket full of chips with gallons of mayo or catchup is junk food.
a pototoe is a vegetable no matter how you cook it.
However they're prepared, potatoes are still vegetables. And really, if french fries (AKA chips) are fried in vegetable oil, they're not as unhealthy as people make them out to be.
If you're using lard, or other unhealthy fat, to fry, then anything can be made unhealthy! It's the same idea as eating broccoli---generally considered to be very healthy and nutritious---and dipping into high-fat bleu cheese dressing. It doesn't change the properties of the vegetable; it's just making the entire meal less healthful.
They would be classed as a starch rather than a vegetable.
As far as I'm concerned, if it grows from soil, like fruit from a tree or roots or whatever, its a vegetable.
Chips are made of potatoes which are root vegetables. They certainly aren't minerals or animals.
Of cource. Chips or french fries are awesome and they should have their own category on tehe food chart.
Potatoes are root vegetables so I suppose you could classify chips as 'fried vegetables' but I don't think you should count them in your 5-a-day! They are normally served for their carbohydrate content.
They only become 'bad' when you eat them too often and don't have a well balanced diet!
Moderation is the key to healthy eating.
I would love to be able to classify them as Veggies, but why lie to myself? They are yummy tho =)
Well since they are made of Potato's it is definitely a vegetable. After being cooked in oil a slightly unhealthy vegetable but a veggie all the same.
chips are fantastic (home made) remember we (the Brits) won 2 world wars and a world cup eating them..
chips forever
sure why not. it comes from a potatoe which is a veggie not a carb like the person above said. it is consided junk food but its still a vegetable
