Nutrition Facts??!
Nutrition Facts??
What do you look at in the Nutrition Facts when buying food??? In my case I am trying to lower my BF and trying to gain muscle. I am 24, 5'1 and weight 102lbs. Yesterday I went to do my grocierys and I looked at the nutrition facts and realized that they are very very tricky.
Example:
2grms of SUGAR
and then 20grm of TOTAL FAT
but then if you get a lower total fat then the sugar is higher. Is there anyway to be in balance when picking food out. What do you look at as far as carbs? sugar? total fat?
Answers:
I focus primarily on the fat & calories, but I totally get what you're saying about high sugar foods!
I eat alot of fruit, which is high in a different type of sugar, one that is healthy for you & used for energy more readily than plain processed sugars. High fiber foods (fruits, vegetables, wheat) will keep you full longer without feeling hungry.
If you want to build muscle, dont' forget the protein in your diet, which will aid in muscle production & also keep you feeling full, in the same way that fiber does. For Protein, look to lean meats (turkey is a great way to go!!) & soy product, if you like that kind of stuff. I get my protein from turkey, nonfat yogurt & skim milk! That way, I also get alot of calcium too!
Oatmeal is a great breakfast item that is low in fat, calories & even sugar if you get the right kinds. They make lower sugar instant oatmeals now that are much better. You can also buy the plain flavors & add stuff like Splenda & berries, or cinnamon & sliced fruits to keep it more interesting & still super healthy!
as far as fats go, it can be very confusing, but try to get away from trans & saturated fats, cuz those are the 2 types that are REALLY BAD for you. Unsaturated are more healthy, so be aware of that, but in general, keeping the fat grams down is a great start to putting on some muscle & shedding some body fat!
Best Wishes... you can totally do this! If you need some extra tips, this is a website I use ALL the time! It gives u nutrition info for every food imaginable, and also the nutrition info of SOOO MANY restaurants menu items... I love this site!

when picking out food be careful with ingredients such as high fructose corn syrup which interferes with a hormone in the body called leptin which makes you feel full... when it comes to sugar you shouldn't eat anything that has more than 4 grams of sugar.. and when looking at fat make sure they are healthy fats or unsaturated..and carbs are basic energy for your body.. if u eat too much they will be stored as fat but cutting them out is a bad idea since its one of the main macro nutrients
