How long is too long to marinate a steak before it goes bad?
I will be very busy and cannot find time in the next few days to eat a couple of steaks I have been marinating. The next time I will have a chance to cook them would be a week of marinating. Will the steaks be bad by then?
Answers:
Yes, they will be spoiled in a week. Cook them now and keep them in the fridge. Eat them within 2-4 days. Don't forget you can make a steak salad or a steak sandwich to take with you while you are busy.
you couldn't pay me to eat them
I think a week may be a little too long.
Depending on what you are marinating them in, you may find that they have begun to pickle if you wait too long. Best to make time to prepare them.
A week would be too long. Cook them now and then keep them in the fridge or freezer until you have a chance to eat them.
A week is WAY too long. Throw them away. You can only marinate steak for 48 hours, no longer than that.
A week is a bit much. Hopefully, the steaks (in their marinade) have been refrigerated. In which case, they wouldn't go "bad", in the sense that they're spoiled. But marinades do tend to dry meats out, so too long in the marinade can have an effect that's the opposite of what you want.
What you can do, though, is remove the steaks from the marinade, wrap them in plastic, and freeze them. The marinade will stop "working" in the freezer, and you can put the steak/steaks in the fridge to thaw on the morning of the day you plan to eat them.
Most meat breaks down if you have marinated it for longer than 24 hours. Usually this is dependent upon the marinade. If it has lemon juice, lime juice, or anything acidic, 24 hours is the LIMIT. 8 hours is best.
The meat isn't necessarily spoiled, but the problem is the acid breaks down the meat to the point where it will no longer be as good.
Otherwise, follow normal beef rules. Here is a website that explains those:

Enjoy!
try taking them out of the marinate now and cook them besides talking and asking questions you letting a good steak die alone
Freeze them. If they haven't already been thawed you can freeze them, and they will keep for at least 6 months. When you have more time, simply pull them out to thaw in the fridge, and cook!
