What was the price if candy in 1950?
Answers:
Probably about 1-5 cents.
1,5, or 10 cents depending on what it is...
I don't know, but I remember going into a local store in the late 50's and buying individual pieces out of large candy jars for 1 cent a piece!
a penny
Probably 2 cents, or 5 cents.
Most candy bars were 5 cents and were almost twice the size of the ones today.
Some that were the "now current" size were 2 for a nickle.
There were MANY MANY varieties of penny candy.
Some were a penny each, some were 2 or 3 for a penny (licorice sticks) or a scoop for a penny.. like gummy bears , that came in a small brown paper bag.
The price remained pretty much the same until the late 60s when the nickle bars got smaller.
my grandpa told me he could buy a tootsie roll around that time for .1 cent
Since I was born in 1955, I wouldn't know. But in 1960 the candy was like Tootsie Roll was 3 cents. So do the math, it was probably 1 cent in 1950. Now Tootsie Roll is about 89 cents. Reality sucks.
cheaper than it is now
I grew up when candy and gum was 1c per piece and a pack of gum or candy bar was 5c.
1-5 cents. i think that 5 cents was like 99 cents.
Candy bars were .05 , there were many .01 candies around. A ride on the street car or bus was .05 -.07. The price for a kid to see a movie was as low as .09. A Popsicle or soda pop was .05.
Don't feel bad, my old man only earned $25 per week. My allowance was about .20 a week.
1 penny
