Washing fruit..?!

Question:

Washing fruit..?

I always wash fruit & veg before I eat it, but things like apples and pears still feel really waxy after i've washed them, I only wash then in water, is there anything that would work better to get all the wax off?

Answers:
No sorry you should only use cold water.

Wipe them with kitchen towel after washing though you will never completely remove the wax. Alternatively you could always buy organic.

try organic

just simply peel them that is the only way rather than that buy organic with no wax or pestisides

I think what you think "wax" might be sugar in apples and pears oozing out from inside . In fact I grow apple . public wrongly believe that apple growers use wax to make them good . I do not. I eat mine directly from my tree without even wiping'em at sleeves.

I wash my apples in a solution of water and lemon Juice. This helps getting the wax off.
Usually about a bowl of water and two tbsp of Lemon Juice. Does the trick everytime.

Just wash them in cold water from a running tap and dry them off with kitchen paper.

wash with cold water and dry with a clean tea towel

I wash my fruit in washing up liquid, then rinse well.

I like to think that it dissolves the wax and grime.

Eeew get a horrible feeling when you look around the fruit shop and see all sorts of people touching the fruit! The germs on your apples etc must be horrific!!!

You could peel them as that's what I sometimes end up doing if I think that my fruit is still waxy after I have washed them

that is fine, the waxy feel are the actual micro hair that make some kind of apples slightly velvety it is enough to wash them with clean water no need to use anything else from what i know

You could try to source a local supply but if not, do what I do, a drop of washing up liquid rubbed over the apple and then washed gently under a warm running tap.

There is actually a special wash for fruits which you can buy at most vegetable stores. This gets rid of the wax. I have heard the wax is harmless and is put on by suppliers to extends it's length of time.
