Can I write on a watermelon...?
I have an uncut watermelon, and my kids and I are having too much fun decorating it with a sharpie marker. It started as a smiley face and now it's lots more. My question is, is it still safe to cut it later and eat it? I'm thinking yes, but just wanna make sure that the sharpie isn't putting harmful chemicals in there. Thanks!
Answers:
yes, ma'am you can still enjoy your watermelon!
yes, the marker won't penetrate that deep into the red flesh of the melon. (that sounds dirty. my bad)
I don't think eating it would the right choice for your kids to eat well using a non- toxic would have been good and one of those eatable use markers that you use on cakes.
yea, it should be fine..
just don't eat the skin...that would be weird anyways
have fun with your kids!
The marker, or the package it came in, ought to mention whether the marker is toxic. Chances are, you'd have to eat an entire Sharpie Marker to suffer any ill effects, but you can't be too careful, especially when it comes to kids. You might also try the marker company's website for information.
I'm guessing that the biggest concern would be having colored lips, tongues and fingers!
Yep, it's still good. The marker won't seep in that far. Enjoy!
yes
yes it is just fine to cut and eat it does not put harmful chemicals in the watermelon.
your welcome
I agree with the others. I'd have NO qualms with eating a nice chilled (and illustrated) melon with my 2 y/o. You did give me a great idea, I think that we'll color our next watermelon before we eat it. You sound like a very creative mom, thanks!
FYI- According to the Sharpie website, their product is non-toxic.
Yes you can write on a watermelon. Make sure you use a permanent black marker and make sure the watermelon is dried off so the marker doesn't drip or get all runny.
sure you can, and it brought back memories of being a kid in New York and visiting the produce store, they always marked the watermelons with a price on it. But if it is too marked up maybe you can cut it half and then scoop it out. Cause a sharpie can be a pain to wash off or get out.....
