Salmon with dark patches?!

Question:

Salmon with dark patches?

I just bought some salmon and when I got it home I noticed it had a dark, slightly purplish patch on the flesh (not the scales). Is this normal?

I eat lots of salmon but have not seen this before.

Answers:
It means that your salmon is turning to the dark side of the force.

Normal, but it doesn't taste the best.
Cut it off.
Throw it- give it to your kitty cat.

Fresh fillets/steaks should have a sheen, crisp look; a clear, clean look with no bruises or brown spots. The actually color of fillets will vary with each species from a ruby red of tuna to the eggshell white of sole. Certain fillets/steaks will have the skin on others will be skinless. A dull, brown or bruised fillet /steak is a good indication or sign of spoilage or mishandling. Secondly put your nose to it, give it a whiff, if you are not getting a sweet smell or sea smell put it back it’s not for you.
