Don't know...but suppose to be the most important because your body was at rest and stomach empty while sleeping and digestion only last 8 hours...so should grab something for breakfast instead of waiting till lunch!

however it is a pretty important meal of the day it give you a boost of energy other wise you wont get if you don't eat. you will also eat less during the day if you start with breakfast. by eating in the morning your metabolism starts working faster and you will actually burn more though out your day which in the long run will cause weight loss and you will be healthier i would try fruit in the moring

After you have been fasting for probably 12 hours you need nourishment to get yourself going.
Not only that you are probably dehydrated from not drinking any water all night and that is even more important.

This goes back so far, the best answer, aside from "a great number of doctors and nutritionists," is "Mom," but a renewed interest in the subject of health around the mid-to-late 19th century may be responsible for today's version of breakfast.

Breakfast goes back a lot further than that, though. The common sense practice of having a light snack upon rising, to jack up the body heat before facing a cold winter's day gave rise to the term "breakfast," which stood for breaking the "fast," those several hours of sleep without food.

While this made a lot more sense in the last mini-ice age before central heating was invented, it makes physiological sense in any climate. Consider the advantages of today's breakfast foods.

Back to the 1800s, a small number of health enthusiasts including the Kellogg brothers and C.W. Post revolutionized our morning routine by introducing the concept of "cold cereal" as a way to get the benefits of whole grains without the drudgery of boiling a pot of morning porridge. True, cold cereal has been a cash cow for the food and dairy industries, but it has saved our families time and energy costs, advantages that resonate from the Industrial Revolution to today's fast-paced lifestyles.

Though the association of breakfast with cereal is strong, there's no rule about starting your day with grain. Any nutritious, easily digestible food is fine for breakfast, but the simpler it is, the faster you will replenish the 60-70 calories per hour the average person burns during sleep.

Why replenish these calories so soon? After several hours with no food, putting your body into action without any nourishment can affect your metabolism in a way that mimics starvation, which slows down heat and energy production while maximizing fat storage. Since the brain runs entirely on sugar, low levels in the bloodstream can impair cognitive performance and increase fatigue.

Skipping breakfast also increases the temptation to overeat later, particularly later in the day when the opportunity to burn calories is less than the likelihood of storing them as unsightly fat.

These reasons alone are enough for most people, but there are always exceptions to the rule. Simple foods may be fine for most of us, but diabetics and those with strong insulin reactions to high-glycemic (blood-sugar boosting) foods may experience confusion or sluggishness after the average breakfast. In these cases, the type and quantity of food should be adjusted for best results.

So remember - breakfast IS the most important meal of the day, whether you eat it or not!
